This came on the heels of a fact finding visit embarked on the community by Journalists to ascertain the spate of development in the area.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Journalists, the paramount ruler of the community, HRH Walpole George Paul said there has never been any visible project embarked by the duo of the Rivers state government and its interventionist agencies, especially the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the community.<\/p>\n

The monarch while pleading with the government and the NDDC to put the community into consideration on projects execution revealed that there situation becomes even more worrisome as they lack functional primary school and health facilities.<\/p>\n

He described the near total absence of internal roads in the community as appalling, saying the community believes that the government and the NDDC could still do something to ameliorate their plights.<\/p>\n

The royal father who also bared his mind on the worsening state of the Okparaki—Igovia— Udoda road noted that though the contract for the construction of the road was awarded by the NDDC and part done before the 2012 floods, the project was not completed as earlier awarded by the interventionist agency.<\/p>

He stressed that even the few metres completed by the NDDC was totally washed away by the 2012 ravaging floods while the remaining part of the project has been totally abandoned, making the Communities after Okparaki inaccessible by road.<\/p>\n

While calling on the government and interventionist agencies to begin the processes of ensuring an even development of the area, the paramount ruler stated that the only internal walk way in the community was a project executed during the existence of the local empowerment and rnvironmental management programme(LEEMP).<\/p>\n

The paramount ruler said: “look at our community, we’ve been completely abandoned. No electricity, no good primary school. We don’t have a secondary school because neighbouring Okarki and Ikodi Communities have one each. We don’t have any motorable road, no internal roads. The only existing less than one metre internal road in this community too was done during the days of LEEMP.<\/p>\n

“As you can see we don’t have electricity, no water, no befitting health facilities and worst of it all, the few metres constructed on the abandoned Okparaki—Igovia—Udoda road project was washed away by the 2012 floods. So as it’s, the government and the NDDC and every other body has neglected this Community because we don’t have any body in government or anybody who could attract projects to this Community. We want to plead on the government and the NDDC to please help our unity.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
