\"\"Attempt to smuggle 792 parcels of illicit drugs suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) into Ogun State have been foiled by troops of 81 Division, Nigerian Army.<\/p>\n

The syndicates were intercepted at a checkpoint along the Ilaro-Benin Republic Border following an intelligence-driven operation.<\/p>\n

The suspected illicit drugs and suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos Command by authorities of 81 Division for further action.<\/p>\n

Confirming the arrest on Friday, the Acting Deputy Director, 81 Division Army Public Relations, Major Olaniyi Osoba said the parcels of Indian helm were concealed in a truck compartment coming from the Volta Region of Ghana.<\/p>\n

However, the estimated market value of the suspected illicit drugs is worth N10,000,000. The marijuana were to be delivered to a drug syndicate based in Lagos. However, the supposed receiver is presently on the run.<\/p>

A search on the truck conveying the suspected consignment indicated that it was designed specifically to convey illicit drugs as there was a special compartment welded to the base of the truck for concealment purposes but could be discovered on scrutiny.<\/p>\n

It took the vigilance of the troops at the checkpoint to detect the concealed drugs after resisting the bribe offered by the suspected drug syndicates.<\/p>\n
