{"id":63123,"date":"2022-07-29T14:55:59","date_gmt":"2022-07-29T13:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=63123"},"modified":"2022-07-29T14:55:59","modified_gmt":"2022-07-29T13:55:59","slug":"airtel-africas-profit-hits-178m-worried-over-nigerias-unregistered-nin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/airtel-africas-profit-hits-178m-worried-over-nigerias-unregistered-nin\/","title":{"rendered":"Airtel Africa\u2019s Profit Hits $178m Worried Over Nigeria\u2019s Unregistered NIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Airtel Africa PLC has released its financial statement for its Q1 period ended June 30, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>A copy obtained by National Wire showed that for the period under review, the revenue of the telecoms grew by 13.0 percent to $1.2 billion, compared to $1.1 billion during the same period in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The sizable increase in revenue was due to a strong performance in the voice, data and mobile money segments of Airtel\u2019s business operations.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, revenue from the voice segment stood at $610 million, followed by data revenue at $418 million and mobile money revenue at $159 million. Other revenue generated by the telecom giant for the period stood at $106 million.<\/p>\n<p>The total expense for the Q1 period was $645 million. These include a total tax charge of $98 million.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, profit after tax for the period under review stood $178 million, marking a 25.3 percent growth year on year.<\/p>\n<p>While commenting on the financial performance, Airtel Africa\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Segun Ogunsanya, said:<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to report that the Group has continued to post double-digit revenue growth, margin improvement and strong earnings growth. I am also particularly pleased with our ongoing strengthening of the balance sheet, which continued after the period ended, with early repayment of $450m of debt at Group level<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we flagged in our full year announcement, this quarter we have faced headwinds from outbound voice call barring for customers who had not yet registered their National Identification Numbers in Nigeria and the loss of site sharing revenue in those OpCos, where we recently sold towers.
