…seeks N20m for transplant<\/p>\n

A former sports editor with The News and TEMPO magazine, PM News, The Moment and The Union newspapers, Mr. Dipo Okubanjo has made a passionate appeal for help to raise N20 million for a kidney transplant.<\/p>\n

He is currently battling for his life after been diagnosed with kidney disease that has left him in a dangerous health condition at the Gbagada General hospital, Lagos.<\/p>\n

At the time he fell ill, he was the Media officer with Covenant University, Ota.<\/p>\n

In a post by one of his former colleague at The Moment Newspaper, Emeka Ibemere on his Facebook wall said Okubanjo is on weekly dialysis at the Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos, after he was diagnosed with renal failure last year, a condition that has kept him out of circulation since then.<\/p>\n

According to him, the doctors said he needed N20 million for a kidney transplant, a cost he is unable to afford.<\/p>

Okubanjo said, “I first thought I had malaria and I went to my local clinic, where I was attended to without any significant improvement. I was asked to do a CT scan and it was based on the result of the scan that I was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) from where I was later referred to the Gbagada General Hospital.<\/p>\n

“It was at Gbagada that I was told that my kidney was failing. I was placed on three rounds of dialysis per week before it was reduced to two, with each costing N45,000.<\/p>\n

“I now do one per week due to paucity of funds. So far, we have spent over N5 million, which have come from family, friends, my place of work and personal savings,” he explained.<\/p>\n

“Sourcing for funds has not been easy but God has been faithful. It is impossible to raise N20 million needed for the transplant while still battling to pay for dialysis. This is why I\u2019m reaching out to good Nigerians to help with whatever token they can afford,” he added.<\/p>\n
