{"id":55203,"date":"2022-01-10T23:01:08","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T22:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=55203"},"modified":"2022-01-10T23:01:34","modified_gmt":"2022-01-10T22:01:34","slug":"hpv-cancer-over-5000-women-to-be-screened-treated-free-of-charge-in-niger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/hpv-cancer-over-5000-women-to-be-screened-treated-free-of-charge-in-niger\/","title":{"rendered":"HPV Cancer: Over 5,000 Women To Be Screened, Treated Free Of Charge\u00a0 In Niger\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Olabode Adaramola<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As part of efforts to ensure that Niger State\u00a0 achieves less than four new cases of cervical cancer per 100,000, the incumbent government in the State\u00a0 has organized a free cervical cancer screening and treatment of initial 5,000 girls and\u00a0 women of reproductive age group for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Disclosing this\u00a0 on Monday at the flag off ceremony of\u00a0 the HPV Cervical Cancer prevention services held at the Neo-Natal wing of the Minna, General Hospital, the State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello called on family heads and religious leaders to encourage their women and daughters of reproductive age to go out in large numbers with the view to\u00a0 benefit from the exercise.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the Governor, &#8220;as a State, we are set to provide organized cervical cancer screening of initial 5,000 women of reproductive age group for HPV across the State and treat those with cervical precancerous lesions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We will continue to strive to ensure that Niger State is one of the leading States in the country to achieve less than 4 new cases of cervical cancer per 100,000,&#8221; said Governor Sani Bello.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Speaking also, a Cancer Survivor and Executive Director, International Centre For Sexual Reproductive Rights, Cesnabmihilo Dorothy Aken&#8217;Ova described the programme as very timing,\u00a0 stressing\u00a0 \u00a0that &#8220;for a very long time, we have desired that Nigeria should meet up with the general global standard, such that women get support in terms of early detection of cancer.
