{"id":53527,"date":"2021-10-31T14:11:46","date_gmt":"2021-10-31T13:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=53527"},"modified":"2021-10-31T14:11:46","modified_gmt":"2021-10-31T13:11:46","slug":"troops-kill-four-ipob-esn-rebels-recovers-ak-47-rifles-vehicles-ammunition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/troops-kill-four-ipob-esn-rebels-recovers-ak-47-rifles-vehicles-ammunition\/","title":{"rendered":"Troops Kill Four IPOB\/ESN Rebels  &#8230;Recovers AK-47 Rifles, Vehicles, Ammunition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Okosun Dennis<\/p>\n<p>It was a golden moment for troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN as they have neutralised<\/p>\n<p>four gunmen of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra\/ Eastern Security Network (IPOB\/ESN) in a fierce encounter at Nnobi Junction, Idemili South Local Government Area on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53535\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0016-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53532\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0010-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was learnt that the victims had attacked personnel of security agencies deployed at Ekwulobia Round About in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.<\/p>\n<p>In the process, the troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and subsequently embarked on pursuit of the criminals along Nnewi &#8211; Nnobi road.<\/p>\n<p>Troops made contact with the fleeing gunmen and engaged them in a fire fight, neutralizing four of the criminals.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53530\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0015-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53534\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0012-138x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Confirming the killings, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwuchukwu said in Abuja that the gallant troops also recovered two AK-47 Rifles, one GALIL Ace 5.56 x 45 Iwi Gun, one Avofeng Hand held radio and one Black Highlander jeep.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, one soldier died in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate operation, Brig Gen Nwuchukwu added, the troops foiled another attack by IPOB\/ESN gunmen at Umunze Checkpoint, in Orumba South Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53533\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0014-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-53531\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG-20211031-WA0018-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vigilant troops were said to have overwhelmed the attackers in the shootout that ensued, forcing them to take to their heels, abandoning, one Pump Action gun with nine cartridges, one dark blue Ford and four motorcycles, which the troops have recovered.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian Army notes that the recent attacks are part of proscribed IPOB\/ESN plan to instil fear into the public and sabotage forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public are reassured that the Nigerian Army, sister services and other security agencies would not relent in resolutely confronting all criminals intents against the citizenry and national interest.<\/p>\n<p>He called on law abiding citizens to continue to go about their daily activities without any fear.
