{"id":52171,"date":"2021-09-16T08:38:05","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T07:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=52171"},"modified":"2021-09-16T08:38:05","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T07:38:05","slug":"airforce-plane-crash-aib-submits-interim-reports-to-chief-of-air-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/airforce-plane-crash-aib-submits-interim-reports-to-chief-of-air-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Airforce Plane Crash: AIB Submits Interim Reports To Chief Of Air Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By: Okosun Dennis<\/p>\n<p>Interim reports of the Nigerian Airforce plane crash that killed the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others has been submitted to the Chief of Airforce Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao.<\/p>\n<p>The unfortunate incident involved a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) King Air -350 aircraft which happened at the vicinity of Kaduna Civil Airport on 21 May 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Air Marshal Oladayo Amao had directed that a joint investigative body consisting of experienced NAF safety officers and the Accident Investigative Bureau (AIB) be constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the air crash.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru, submitted the interim reports to CAS after about three months of painstaking joint investigation on Wednesday, 15 September 2021 at his office at NAF Headquarters, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement jointly signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Commodore Edwards Gabkwet and General Manager<br \/>\n{Public Affairs) Accident Investigation Bureau, Tunji Oketunbi, said the submitted report is organized into three sections namely; the information obtained in the course of the investigation; analysis of data collected in view of the Board\u2019s Terms of Reference; and the conclusion, which covers the initial findings and immediate recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It should be noted that at this interim stage, a total of 27 initial findings and 8 immediate safety recommendations were made for the convening authority as well as other aviation related agencies for immediate implementation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is expected that the final report will contain the flight data recorder readout, the reviewed operator\u2019s and service provider\u2019s standard operating procedures as well as other detailed analysis.&#8221;<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>While receiving the report, the CAS reiterated the main essence of activating the \u2018joint investigative\u2019 clause contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the NAF and the AIB on 1 July, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the successful collaboration is a clear indication of the potency of collaboration in aircraft accident investigation, which must be encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>Air Marshal Amao also noted that such collaborative efforts make accident investigations more transparent and open while also stating that the outcome of the investigation is not necessarily aimed at punitive measures but essentially at generally improving safety in the aviation industry.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru stated that the joint investigation with the NAF was its first direct involvement in military air crash investigation in Nigeria and second investigation outside its mandate having also assisted Sao Tome and Principe in the past.<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that copies of the report, with the endorsement of the CAS, will also be submitted to the Hon.
