Bayelsa state governor, Douye Diri have charged Engineers to work out modalities towards solving the perennial outage and shortage of electric power in the nation.<\/p>\n

Diri made the call at the maiden edition of an event tagged: ‘Celebrating our Icons’ organised by the Nigerian institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,(NIEEE) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.<\/p>\n

National Wire reports that the Nigerian institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(NIEEE) is a division of the Nigerian society of Engineers,NSE.<\/p>\n

The event saw one time General-manager of the Bayelsa state owned electricity board,Eng. Olice Kemenanabo and a retired permanent Secretary of the state civil service,Eng.(Pst) Moses Dika receiving iconic awards of excellence from the NIEEE,Nigerian institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.<\/p>\n

Governor Diri who was represented by the Chief of Staff to the state government, chief Benson Agadaga,stated that with adequate research and innovations,the abundance of gas and water resources in the state could be converted into sufficient energy in various capacities for grid needed for the state’s industrialisation.<\/p>\n

He commended the awardees for putting in their best towards the developement of the state and nation,just as he restated that the duo were a house hold name in their chosen careers.<\/p>\n

In chat with journalists shortly after the event, Engrs.Olice Kemenanabo and Dika Moses stated that the award would spur them to do more for the state and the nation.<\/p>

They advised young engineers to be focused in their chosen fields of Engineering, adding that for any Engineer to reach the peak of the profession,innovation must be prioritized.<\/p>\n

“Without innovation,the abundant natural gas and rivers in the state which can be converted for our energy need would have no direct impact on our development.<\/p>\n

“Our prosperity government is anchored on wealth creation through industrialisation. And we can only begin our industrialisation with adequate power supply for industries to thrive in the state”,the Bayelsa governor said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,the chairman,Nigeria institution of electrical and electronics engineers,NiEEE,Yenagoa chapter Eng. James Sokari has said the event would hold annually.<\/p>\n

He said that the reason for the awards was to recognize the contributions of Electrical Engineers towards development, just as he hinted that the recipients of the maiden edition were a role model for young members of the institution.<\/p>\n

The event had in attendance the national chairman, NIEEE, Eng.Kings Adeyemi,the Ibe- nanaowei of kolokuma clan, HRM, Onya Mozi Agara,the Bayelsa state commissioner for power,Hon.
