{"id":50375,"date":"2021-07-09T04:32:04","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T03:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=50375"},"modified":"2021-07-09T04:32:04","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T03:32:04","slug":"ncc-distances-self-from-3-million-new-lines-in-q1-despite-ban-on-sim-card-sale-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/ncc-distances-self-from-3-million-new-lines-in-q1-despite-ban-on-sim-card-sale-report\/","title":{"rendered":"NCC Distances Self From 3 Million New Lines In Q1 Despite Ban On SIM Card Sale Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has distance itself from an online media report alleging that mobile telephony subscriptions in Nigeria somehow grew by 3,000,000 new subscribers in the first quarter of 2021, despite the suspension on the registration of new subscribers which took effect from December 9, 2020 and was only lifted in May, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission noted that, the Ericsson Mobility Report cited in the online publication is essentially a forecast of trends based on Ericsson\u2019s analysis and does not refer to the NCC or any official channel as source for its data and\/or projections.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, the NCC in a terse statement by its Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde<br \/>\ndescribed the report as being inaccurate, that Nigeria recorded 3million new lines in the 1st Quarter of 2021 as stated in the media report.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wish to use this opportunity to clarify that the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) are the only authoritative sources of authentic data on the Nigerian telecommunications sector.
