These were the words of Very Rev Fr. Michael Onwudiegwu at the Requiem Mass held for the repose of the soul of Mr. Joe Lucky Agbro at the St Theresa\u2019s Catholic Church, Ifako Agege, Lagos State on Friday.<\/p>\n

The clergy continued that, \u201cLife lived with the Lord Jesus Christ is the real life and without baptism into Christ, one is not a Christian because life begins with accepting Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late Agbro was a devout member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church who passed on 3rd<\/sup> April at the age of 75.<\/p>\n

According to the priest, Agbro would do everything to attend the daily morning mass. \u201cHe virtually slept in the church. He was inspired by the word of God, it was his driving force and he lived his life based on Christ\u2019s promises.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe deceased made sacrifice every morning as he was always in Mass and he was always competing with me, a priest on who got to church first. I beat him sometimes to it. He was that devoted,\u201d said the clergy, who prayed for the family Agbro left behind.<\/p>\n

Agbro, a former adviser to the Second Republic President Shehu Shagari was born in Okitipupa in present day Ondo State on 2nd<\/sup> February 1946. After his secondary education in Lagos in 1966, he proceeded to study English and Philosophy at the University of Lagos and he graduated in 1972.<\/p>\n

He got a teaching job with the River State Government as an education officer Grade II but resigned his job in 1974 and relocated to Lagos to pick a teaching job.<\/p>

He veered into journalism and worked for Mercantile Press Limited in Palm Avenue, Lagos. The company was the publishers of Business Guardian. He also worked with Carmen Press Limited, publishers of the African Spark magazine.<\/p>\n

In 1976, he joined PZ Industries Limited as Assistant Advertising Manager. He later joined Continental Pharmaceutical Limited, Ilupeju as Advertisement\/Promotion Manager. In his role, he was actively involved in the Miss Nigeria contest and traveled across Nigeria to pick a winner.<\/p>\n

Agbro joined politics in 1978 pitching his tent with the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in March 1979 and worked at the party\u2019s National Secretariat in Yaba, Lagos. He later became an Adviser to the then President Shehu Shagari.<\/p>\n

He however left politics after the military take-over at the end of 1983 to start his own business. He also became a columnist, writing his opinion in newspapers. He never stopped writing even till his death.<\/p>\n

He played prominent role in his Catholic Church parish as a Patron of the Catholic Men Organisation and St. Joseph Society. He was member of Parish Pastoral Council and a former Chairman of Delta Forum.<\/p>\n

For his leisure, the father of six boys, Agbro engaged in discussions across a wide spectrum of subjects. He was a chess and droughts player. He was also a member of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
