{"id":47529,"date":"2021-03-16T14:55:06","date_gmt":"2021-03-16T13:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=47529"},"modified":"2021-03-16T14:55:06","modified_gmt":"2021-03-16T13:55:06","slug":"us-contacts-nigerian-visa-applicants-affected-by-trumps-travel-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/us-contacts-nigerian-visa-applicants-affected-by-trumps-travel-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"US Contacts Nigerian Visa Applicants Affected By Trump\u2019s Travel Restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States mission has said that it was prioritising immigrant visa applicants in Nigeria affected by the travel restrictions under Presidential Proclamations 9645 and 9983 signed by former President Donald Trump last year.<\/p>\n<p>This followed the Presidential Proclamation signed by President Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, titled, \u2018Ending discriminatory bans on entry to the United States.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Trump had suspended entry into the United States of certain nationals, based on visa type, from various countries, including Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>But the US mission in a statement on Tuesday, said its Consulate-General in Lagos has already contacted all immigrant visa applicants whose applications were affected and is prioritizing the processing of these pending cases.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that media reports claiming \u201cNigerians denied visas on or after January 20, 2020, can re-apply for free\u201d were inaccurate, adding that the proclamation announcement applies only to certain immigrant visa cases, and did not apply to tourist, business, student, or other nonimmigrant visas.<\/p>\n<p>The statement titled, \u2018United States Mission in Nigeria prioritizes immigrant visa applicants refused under Presidential Proclamation 9983,\u2019 read in part, \u201cOn January 20, 2021, President Biden signed a Presidential Proclamation titled, \u2018Ending Discriminatory Bans on Entry to the United States.\u2019<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis ended the travel restrictions under Presidential Proclamations 9645 and 9983 that had suspended entry into the United States of certain nationals, based on visa type, from various countries to include Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Nigeria, this proclamation banned entry for certain immigrant visa categories.
