The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Abutu Yaro said on Tuesday that his command has made steady progress in the disarmament process in terms of receiving Arms and Ammunition from repentant bandits who were operating in the forest.<\/p>\n

While briefing the press in Gusau, the police boss said they received Arms and Ammunition from one Auwalu Daudawa, a repentant bandit at Dumburum Forest in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n

He noted that in consonance with Governor of Zamfara State Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawalle’s Peace Accord initiatives, 22
\nsophisticated arms and ammunitions were on Monday, 8th February, 2021, received from an Ex – bandit’s leader from one of the largest and most notorious bandits camp at Dumburum Forest, voluntarily submitted the weapons of different calibre to the State Government Disarmament Committee.<\/p>\n

The ammunitions included One Rocket Propel Grenade, One Anti-Air Craft rifle, One Ak 49 and 19 Ak 47 rifles with 72 rounds of chain live Ammunition of Anti Air Craft.<\/p>\n

CP Yaro noted that the submission of the sophisticated rifles was a demonstration that the peace initiative of the state government is yielding tremendous result.<\/p>\n

“We salute the state Governor for this. Let me enjoin other bandits from different locations of the state to also embrace the Peace Accord and surrender their weapons so that Peace and Security of the State can be improved and sustained for economic, social and political development.”<\/p>\n

Also recovered from bandits on the 2nd February, 2021 about 2230 hours, were abandoned motorcycles after a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer of Tsafe Division that armed bandits numbering about hundreds blocked Tsafe – Funtua Road with intention to rob innocent commuters.<\/p>\n

It was further revealed that the DPO immediately mobilised a combined team of Special Forces and Conventional Policemen to the scene and after a gun duel with the bandits, they fled to the bush with possible gun wounds abandoning 14 operational motorcycles and other bags containing their clothes and Military Camouflage uniforms.<\/p>\n
