The security Joint Task Force deployed to keep watch\u00a0 in Erena\u00a0 town of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State has successfully repelled armed bandits attack on the town after engaging the hoodlums on several\u00a0 hours of Superior\u00a0 gun\u00a0 battle<\/p>\n

Nigerian Tribune gathered\u00a0 that the bandits had\u00a0 laid siege on\u00a0 the town at about 4:00am on Tuesday in\u00a0 their numerous\u00a0 numbers in a coordinated attempt to unleash terror\u00a0 on the people.<\/p>\n

It was further learnt\u00a0 that the security task force based in the town however put up brave fights with their\u00a0 superior fire power that prevented the hoodlums\u00a0 from gaining access.<\/p>\n

An eye witness account\u00a0 who is said to be\u00a0 Co- Covener of Shiroro Youths Forum, Comrade Bello Ibrahim told our reporter in a brief chat on Tuesday in Minna\u00a0 that an Hilux van assigned\u00a0 to the security outfit was however set on fire\u00a0 by the bandits.<\/p>\n

According to Ibrahim who spoke to\u00a0 the National Wires\u00a0 \u00a0 in an\u00a0 interview by Telephone , said, “yes I can confirm to you that in the early hours of today,( Tuesday) that some armed gang\u00a0 terrorists in their large numbers stormed Erena town in an attempt to unleash terror on defenceless, peaceful and unsuspecting locals”.<\/p>

He explained that the terrorists however met a stiff\u00a0 resistance from the Security Joint Task Force team , comprising conventional security and local vigilantes, stationed at the\u00a0 Day Secondary School, Erena.<\/p>\n

He said, “they were engaged in a fierce gun battle which lasted for several hours and consequently, the criminals couldn’t gain access to the town. There were sporadic gunshots as sounds of gunshots could be heard from all over the places”.<\/p>\n

He said casualty figures from both sides have not been ascertained as of the time of filing this report on Tuesday in Minna,\u00a0 as the area has been condone off by security operatives hilighting\u00a0 that, ” a vehicle belonging to the gallant security men was seen to have been set ablaze. On the whole, the deadly attack was successfully repelled. Kudos to our galant officers and men in conjunction with\u00a0 local vigilante group for this heroic performance while on line of duty”.<\/p>\n

However, concerted efforts by our reporter to confirm the incident with the Police Publice Relations Officer, Niger State Command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun was not successful, as several calls made to reach him was not answered while the Police Image Maker also did not reply the text mesaage sent to his cellphone.<\/p>\n
