As Nigeria marks 60 years Independence anniversary , the Senator representing Niger East senatorial district, in the national assembly, Abuja,\u00a0 Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has said that the major challenge confronting the people of his constituency was insecurity and lack of road infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He said although it wa heartwarming to celebrate Nigeria at 60, adding that the current reality whereby\u00a0 many of the people he represents cannot enjoy peace due to banditry activities, leaves much to be desired of the celebration.<\/p>\n

Senator Sani Musa in a statement he personally issued and made available to journalists on Thursday in Minna,\u00a0 to felicitate with Nigerians, also expressed concerns over the deplorable road infrastructure in parts of the state, particularly those owned by the federal government.<\/p>\n

He however\u00a0 regretted that many of the roads have become unmotorable and challenges to the people.<\/p>\n

According to him, “our people are predominantly farmers. But the challenge of insecurity has crippled their farming activities thereby subjecting them to untold hardship and economic difficulties. They cannot go to their farms for the fear of being kidnapped or killed.<\/p>\n

“Road is another issue. It affects development in our state. There are over 2,000 kilometres of federal roads in Niger state, but there is no single one that is in good condition. The Minna-Suleja road is a nightmare for both motorists and commuters alike.\u00a0 Our people cannot transport their farm produce to the markets. Traders used to come from various parts of the country and even abroad to buy from the farmers, but today many of them are afraid of coming, either due to the fear of being kidnapped, killed,\u00a0 or because of the deplorable conditions of our roads”,he stated\u00a0 .<\/p>

Senator Musa thereby\u00a0 commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his doggedness at addressing the security challenges in the country, but appealed to him to speed up the completion of many road projects his administration has embarked upon in the state.<\/p>\n

“As we mark Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary, I heartily felicitate with our abke president, his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, and our amiable Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, our royal fathers and the entire people of Niger State.<\/p>\n

“Both the president and our amiable governor’s efforts at addressing the security issues in the country are commendable. But we still appeal to Mister President to do more for us. He should help in fast tracking the completion of the ongoing road projects his administration has started in our dear state. I also call on the federal government to provide more security for our people so that they can go about their developmental activities,” he said.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker however urged the people not to lose hope in Nigeria but to remain hopeful, prayerful and believe that all will be well.<\/p>\n

“Despite the challenges, we must thank God for keeping the country as one indivisible nation. As against agitations from various angles to disintegrate Nigeria, we have remained one. I believe there is much we can achieve through unity. As long as we remain together, we will achieve so much in the years ahead,” he expressed\u00a0 optimism.<\/p>\n
