September 8th, 2020, the African Green Revolution Forum, AGRF in Kigali launched the 2020 Africa Agriculture Status Report in a first of the kind virtual Summit in Kigali, Rwanda.<\/p>\n

The report contains comprehensive actions and recommendations to improve the inputs of smallholder farmers in order to ensure food security, create rural prosperity and foster inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n

The theme of this year\u2019s summit is: Feed the Cities, Grow the Continent: Leveraging Urban Food Markets to Achieve Sustainable Foods Systems in Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis report highlights the opportunity for all agriculture industry stakeholders to bring together viewpoints that define the transformation agenda, while outlining the practical next steps to an agricultural revolution\u201d said Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).<\/p>\n

The new report identifies the major shifts in Agricultural production in urban areas, showcasing new and expanding interest in Agricultural activities among city dwellers: \u201cThis year\u2019s AASR shows that as the centre of gravity in Africa\u2019s agri-food system shifts increasingly toward urban areas, a cohort of new- non-traditional actors \u2013 including City Planners, Mayors, District Council, Trader Organizations and Public Health professionals are becoming key players in the implementation of the agricultural policy\u201d said Andrew Cox, AGRA Chief of Staff and Strategy.<\/p>

The Kigali Summit, an entirely virtual meeting in line with the COVID- 19 health safety measures is aimed at setting the agenda for the next phase of agri-revolution in African Urban cities, while supporting the smallholder farmers to meet the growing demand for food production in African cities. The virtual meeting will connect key stakeholders including- Ministers of Agriculture, Members of the Civil Societies, Private Sector leaders, scientists and farmer groups.<\/p>\n
