The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Lagos Zonal office, on Tuesday arraigned an alleged fraudster, Osho Aluko-Kola, before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.<\/p>\n

With a nine-count charges bordering on conspiracy and stealing to the tune of N206, 502,490.02, the defendant was arraigned alongside six companies namely: Centurion Registrars Limited; United Securities Limited; Evolution Construction & Engineering Design Limited; Cities & Towers Logistics Limited, Continental Exim Nigeria Limited and Diffusion Impex Limited for allegedly conspiring and stealing N206, 502,490.02.
\nOne of the counts read:
\n\u201cThat you, Osho Aluko-Kola, Alake Olatokunbo (now at large), Centurion Registrars Limited, United Securities Limited, Evolution Construction & Engineering Design Limited, Cities & Towers Logistics Limited, Continental Exim Nigeria Limited and Diffusion Impex
\nLimited, between 2015 and 2019 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired to commit felony, to wit: stealing the sum of N206, 502,490.02 (Two Hundred and Six Million, Five Hundred and Two Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety Naira, Two Kobo), property of Chief Chukwudozie Nwanneka Daniel, and committed an offence contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 287 (5) & (9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.\u201d
\nThe defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, I.A. Mohammed, prayed the court for a trial date and also asked that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service, (NCS).<\/p>\n

Counsel to the defendant, Yusuf Yamta, therefore, informed the court of a bail application for his client and also asked for a short date for its hearing.<\/p>\n

Justice Dada adjourned the matter to July 30, 2020 for hearing of the bail application and remanded the defendant in the custody of the NCS.<\/p>

The Judge further held that the defendant, in the interim, would be in the EFCC custody pending the result of his COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office has secured the conviction of two internet fraudsters, identified as Rasak Olayinka Balogun and Ayodeji Oluwaseun Olatona, who all pleaded guilty to separate one-count charge of criminal impersonation.<\/p>\n

The offence runs contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (iv) of the same Act.<\/p>\n

While Balogun was sentenced to seven months jail term by Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Olatona had his date with Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, who sentenced him to six months imprisonment.<\/p>\n

Apart from his jail term, Balogun was ordered to restitute $4,000 (Four Thousand United States Dollars) to his victim, one Mantonia Duncan, and also forfeit his laptop, Samsung Galaxy S8 phone and iPhone 11 Pro Max to the federal government, while Olatona will restitute $500 (Five Hundred United State Dollars) to his victim and forfeit his iPhone 7 to the Federal government.<\/p>\n

In a similar development, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, convicted one Timilehin Awojoodu of criminal impersonation, but reserved his sentence till July 21, 2020.
