{"id":40411,"date":"2020-05-29T20:27:30","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T19:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=40411"},"modified":"2020-05-29T20:35:27","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T19:35:27","slug":"n449-5m-fraud-lands-vigilante-commandant-in-trouble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/n449-5m-fraud-lands-vigilante-commandant-in-trouble\/","title":{"rendered":"N449.5m Fraud Lands Vigilante Commandant In trouble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;as Court jails man over $240,000 Romance Scam<\/p>\n<p>By: Okosun Dennis<\/p>\n<p>The Commandant, Benue State Vigilante Group, (BSVG), is not a happy man as he has been arrested for allegations of fraud.<\/p>\n<p>George Mbessey, who has landed himself in the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Office, was arrested over allegation of conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of public funds to the tune of N449.5million.<\/p>\n<p>Nationalwire gathered that Mbessey, was arrested on May 27, 2020 in Makurdi following a petition urging the Commission to investigate a case of alleged financial recklessness against the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners stated that, the BSVG used to receive its official funding of N20million monthly directly from the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs through its official account.<\/p>\n<p>It added that, between October 2018 and May 2020, the suspect allegedly collected funds meant for the Benue State Vigilante Group to the tune of N449,500,000 using his personal account, an act they claim did not follow due process hence the petition to the EFCC became imperative.<\/p>\n<p>It was further learnt that the suspect has volunteered useful information to the Commission and would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, in another development, Justice A.T. Mohammed of Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has convicted and sentenced one Igweneme Moses(a.k.a.
