Property worth millions of Naira this afternoon got destroyed when a wild fire gutted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) filling station along college road, Ogba Lagos.<\/p>\n

According to eye witnesses, a tanker was seen offloading content into the station when the unfortunate incident happened Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

There was panic in houses close to the station before fire fighters arrived at the scene to combat the inferno. The filling station also has in the premises a mini cooking gas filling station and a supermarket.<\/p>\n

A source added that the supermarket and the boutique were not affected but the fire took the other end to enter the car shop behind the station.<\/p>\n

According to another eye witness, the car shop owner was contacted but his phone was unreachable but sympathisers broke into the facility to forcefully move the cars. However, some of the cars were moved while the eight remaining were burnt.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout eight Tokunbo cars were destroyed,\u201d an eye witness said, adding that the fire was just too much that people on the adjourning streets had to run as far as Tantalizers at Ogba bus stop so they don\u2019t get consumed by the raging fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, other residents on adjourning Fadare Street decried the location of filling stations in residential areas.<\/p>

A resident around Fadare Street who simply identified himself as Alademeye Jeremiah was concerned about filling stations being located in residential areas.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cWhen we were growing up, things were still sane in Nigeria and you dare not cite a filling station or cooking gas station in the residential area but today, once you have your money, just buy an old building or two, knock them down and build your filling station,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Continuing, he said, \u201cThis is an aberration and the government must look into this menace. We even thank God it wasn\u2019t during normal work day. As you can see we have been home for a month due to the COVID-19, schools have been shut. We all know that school children, pedestrians and even Okada riders often pass through this and it would have been disastrous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, sympathisers thronged the filing station to mourn the great loss and praying that such disasters should never be witnessed in the area.<\/p>\n

Ogba is bustling business area in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of the state home to several business interests.<\/p>\n
