While President Muhammadu Buhari frowned against political killings in River State, the evil trend again today continued as unknown gunmen reportedly killed a Police Sergeant, Sunday Adoga, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.<\/p>\n

The gunmen also killed another man yet to be identified, the state Police command confirmed Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to Police spokesman, Ahmad Mohammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the criminals laid ambush and opened fire on Adoga\u2019s patrol Van, and he died on the spot between Garrison and waterlines junction at about 10 am.<\/p>\n

The Police statement said, \u201cWe are deeply saddened by the senseless killings of Sgt. Sunday Adoga, and the other innocent citizen, who were ambushed at different locations by the marauding gang Thursday, along Garrison and\u00a0waterlines junctions.<\/p>\n

\u201cSadly, today\u2019s event once again demonstrated the profound danger our men face and witness on daily bases. Police officers put their lives on the line every day to confront crime and violence in our communities and society at large.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for the criminals, they can run but it\u2019s just a matter of time, we will catch up with them and bring them to justice.\u201d<\/p>

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium while commuters and motorists in the area of crime took cover as the gunmen shot sporadically through Garrison and waterlines area of the garden city.<\/p>\n

The gun men shot sporadically during which many got injured while trying to rush to safety. Apparently, according to eyewitness reports, the hoodlums were heading for the INEC office around waterline junction, which they eventually gained entrance into. Sources revealed that was where the policeman was killed.<\/p>\n

According to an eyewitness, \u201cWhen we got to waterlines we saw boys with guns alighted from a bus, and began to shoot, carelessly, everybody began to look for escape route, passengers, drivers; private car owners abandoned the vehicles and ran. I jumped through the coaster window other followed, I ran into a small hideout, everybody came and fell on me, I am now in serious pains.<\/p>\n
