A Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 on Wednesday crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran in Iran because of technical problems, according to the Iranian state news media.<\/p>\n

The plane, which was carrying 180 people, went down near Tehran because of technical problems, killing everyone on board, the local news media said.<\/p>\n

The plane was bound for Kyiv, Ukraine\u2019s capital, local media reported.<\/p>\n

The Iranian Students\u2019 News Agency, a state-run media organisation,\u00a0shared a video\u00a0it said showed the predawn crash, with a distant light descending in the distance before a bright burst filled the sky upon impact.<\/p>\n

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 departed Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran at 6:12 a.m. on Wednesday and lost contact at 6:14 a.m., according to a flight tracker,\u00a0New York Times<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware of the media reports out of Iran and we are gathering more information,\u201d Boeing said in a statement.<\/p>

Boeing has been under intense scrutiny after the crash of two 737 Max jets in less than five months, which together killed 346 people. The Max has been grounded worldwide since March, creating a crisis for the company and leading to the firing of the chief executive.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A Boeing spokesperson told\u00a0CNN<\/a>\u00a0they are \u201caware of the media reports out of Iran and we are gathering more information.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the company struggles to get a fix for the Max approved by regulators, new safety risks have recently emerged with the plane, which the company\u00a0may also need to assess on the 737 NG. The Boeing 737-800 has not been flagged for issues.<\/p>\n

The crash came at a tense time in Iran, as\u00a0political escalations with the United States\u00a0had the country on edge. On Tuesday, the F.A.A. banned American airliners from flying over Iran, citing the risk of commercial planes being mistaken for military aircraft.<\/p>\n
