{"id":37037,"date":"2019-12-16T12:52:39","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T11:52:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=37037"},"modified":"2019-12-16T12:52:39","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T11:52:39","slug":"200-days-lagos-opens-bid-for-fourth-mainland-bridge-unveils-other-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/200-days-lagos-opens-bid-for-fourth-mainland-bridge-unveils-other-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"200 Days: Lagos Opens Bid For Fourth Mainland Bridge &#8230; Unveils Other Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"I_52qC D_FY W_6D6F\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO iy_A mq_AS\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"yiv9940461851\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"yiv9940461851gmail_quote\">\n<div>\n<p>Lagos State Government on Sunday gave account of the progress recorded in the last 200 days of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, during an interactive session with journalists said the State Government will be hosting a live ceremony on Wednesday, to open the bids from prospective firms that expressed interests in the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Omotoso added that \u201cthe Government will be announcing the bids at the ceremony, which will officially set process in motion to realise the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that local and international construction giants expressed interest in the construction of the 37-Kilometre-long fourth Mainland bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner said the Sanwo-Olu administration had beamed a special focus on infrastructure, traffic management and transportation, with to reduce gridlocks.<\/p>\n<p>He said Lagos Government had sustained its \u201caggressive response\u201d to rehabilitating bad roads across the metropolis to ease vehicular movement, noting that about 116 deplorable highways were being fixed by eight construction firms and the Public Works Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>The Sanwo-Olu administration, Omotoso said, is deploying Public Infrastructure Improvement Partnership (PIIP) as a strategy to improve the state&#8217;s infrastructure by signing agreements with banks and other private institutions to embark on rehabilitation of adopted roads as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI boldly state, here, that the THEMES Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu Government is on course and will be achieved. The speed of projects implementation has now increased, especially since the last 100 days. The intensity is going according to the plan, which is to apply the right treatment at the right time to achieve the desired level of service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is leveraging the private sector, which controls about 80 per cent of the State&#8217;s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as crucial in the government&#8217;s drive to bridging the infrastructure gap and building the smart city of our dream. Access Bank is partnering with the State Government in the upgrading of a network of roads in Oniru under PIIP arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo further bring relief to our people, we will be setting the process in place for the construction of Fourth Mainland Bridge. Next Wednesday is the final day for the submission of Expression of Interest; we will be unveiling the process that will lead to the realisation of the project on day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Omotoso said the Government had almost doubled the resources committed to education and healthcare to boost human capital.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the 149-bed space Maternal and Childcare Centre (MCC) completed in Alimosho, the Commissioner said the Sanwo-Olu administration would be delivering two additional MCCs in Badagry and Epe in the coming weeks.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Omotoso said the Government remained committed to using skill acquisition as a tool of empowerment, stressing that 4,885 youths had graduated from the State\u2019s 17 Skill Acquisition Centres located in all the five divisions of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner said the State Government had increased funding for schools across state, disclosing that the administration would be deploying technology to strengthen the output from the State-owned schools.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cIn line with our promise, the rehabilitation of public schools has begun, following the inauguration of a Special Committee for the purpose. No fewer than 5,000 primary school teachers will be trained to complete the three-pronged education strategy of fixing the infrastructure, fixing the curriculum and fixing the manpower through recruitment, training and development of teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiving credence to our policy to promote a Smart City with technology, this administration organised the Art of Technology Lagos where Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a N250m grant for tech start-ups to encourage our young ones build their fantastic ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the last 200 days, Omotoso said, the Sanwo-Olu administration had kept its promise not to discontinue projects inherited from past administrations. He said the Government had revived a number of unfinished projects, listing completion of Alhaji Lateef Jakande Housing Estate in Igando and reconstruction of Adiyan Waterworks Phase II and Imota Rice Mill as some of the State-owned projects being revived by the current administration.<\/p>\n<p>On security, Omotoso said the Sanwo-Olu administration had kept its pledge to hold the yearly Town Hall Meeting on Security. The improvement in the support received by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), the Commissioner said, has strengthened the capacity of the State to respond to security breaches on time.<\/p>\n<p>While admitting the Government was working hard to fulfil its campaign promises, Omotoso said the next 100 days would be eventful for the administration, as more welfare projects would be delivered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe summary of achievements so far is by no means exhaustive and we shall continue to engage with stakeholders to inform the public of developments in our dear State,\u201d Omotoso said.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Fredric Oladehinde, said there would be strict enforcement of the State\u2019s Traffic Law, which banned commercial motorcycles from major roads. He added that payment of toll at tollgates on Ikoyi and Lekki axes would be electronic from January 4, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said the State would be completing more housing schemes.<\/p>\n<p>Other State Executive Council members at the event includes the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon.
