… saves N100 million after verification exercise<\/p>\n

Niger State government has explained\u00a0 that it has saved more than N100 million after uncovering over one 1,000\u00a0 workers in its payroll on monthly basis over the past few years.<\/p>\n

Speaking after submitting their report, Chairman of the Committee on Civil Servants Salary Management and Verification, Engr. Ibrahim Mohammed Panti said alot of discrepancies and malpractices have been discovered in the payment of salaries.<\/p>\n

He said,\u00a0 “the discrepancies was\u00a0 unraveled\u00a0 in the course of the committee’s work,\u00a0 \u00a0which include duplication of Bank verification number (BVN), multiple bank accounts number of some staff, duplication of civil servant control and identification numbers as well as some staff names appearing in payment vouchers, but could not be found in the nominal roll with office of the State’ s Head of Service.<\/p>\n

“The State’s staff strength of over twenty 27,000 people,\u00a0 has\u00a0 so far been reduced to about twenty 26,000 work force,\u00a0 while some few ghost workers have also been discovered by the committee, ” he remarks<\/p>

Engr. Panti added that discrepancies were also found in the payment of staff grade levels due to the different figures in payment vouchers.<\/p>\n

He added that out of the 95 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)\u00a0 asked to submit their staff lists, that\u00a0 only 42 complied, saying “the committee will not pay October salary to any of the MDAs that refuse to submit theirs on or before Wednesday,\u00a0 2nd October.”<\/p>\n

He pointed out\u00a0 that the exercise was meant to close the leakages in salary payment to civil servants in yhe statr, but\u00a0 not to witch-hunt anyone, hilighting\u00a0 that anyone who feels aggrieved or affected by the exercise negatively was\u00a0 free to approach the committee.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Engr. Panti disclosed that when the exercise was\u00a0 completed, the government might be in position to implement the N30,000 new minimum wage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
