National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. (Dr.) Supo Ayokunle has been re-elected for another term in office.<\/p>\n

Ayokunle, \u00a0today at the Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Nigeria\u2019s capital got a total of 59 votes to defeat his main opponent, Rev.\u00a0 Caleb Solomon Ahima of Tekan\/ECWA block who got 44 votes.<\/p>\n

According to one of the observers and President of the Christian Press Association of Nigeria (CPAN), Deacon Bola Adewara, the election started at about 9am at the Ecumenical Centre.<\/p>\n

According to Adewara, \u201cRev. Supo Ayokunle has been re-elected for another term and the situation here is peaceful. Also, the Chairman of the Electoral College, Bishop Hassan Kukah after the election has congratulated the winner and wished him well on the journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Ayokunle got 59 votes while Rev Ahima of Tekan\/ECWA got 44 votes,\u201d Adewara reported from the Ecumenical Centre.<\/p>\n

According to the constitution of CAN, Ahima automatically becomes the Vice President of the organisation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in his conceding remark, Ahima pledges to work with Ayokunle to speak for the Church in Nigeria.<\/p>

A total of 104 members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) constituted the voters who participated in the exercise.<\/p>\n

President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Ayokunle was born 25th<\/sup> January 1957. He hails from Isheke, near Oyo in Oyo State, south west Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The 1983 graduate of Sociology from the University of Ibadan, Ayokunle also got a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from the same University.<\/p>\n

After is Master of Divinity in Theology (M.Div.Th) from the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomosho in 1995, he proceeded to Liverpool Hope University in the United Kingdom where he earned a Master of Arts in Theology and Religious Studied.<\/p>\n

Ayokunle however earned his Doctoral degree in Philosophy in Theology with an emphasis on Liturgical Studies.<\/p>\n
