{"id":32003,"date":"2019-05-18T16:26:14","date_gmt":"2019-05-18T15:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=32003"},"modified":"2019-05-18T16:26:14","modified_gmt":"2019-05-18T15:26:14","slug":"glo-implores-girls-to-take-up-ict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/glo-implores-girls-to-take-up-ict\/","title":{"rendered":"Glo Implores Girls To Take Up ICT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Digital Transformation Leader, Globacom has implored school girls across the country to take active interest in science subjects that could help them play prominent roles in the technology world in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Globacom\u2019s representative at this year\u2019s commemoration of the International Girls in ICT Day by\u00a0<em><b>eBusinessLife<\/b><\/em>\u00a0magazine, Mrs. Justina Abdulateef, who is also the Account Manager, Public Sector, Lagos Zone, said the ICT space requires a broad range of skills, noting that operators in the sector are continually looking for talented individuals with those skills to play various roles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Abdulateef said stereotypes and discrimination had deterred many girls from pursuing interests in Information and Communication Technology, adding that there was a need to break the stereotypes early in life in order to create meaningful access to ICT for girls and women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">She opined that increasingly, more women across the world were proving their mettle in the male dominated, technical professions, stating that examples were enormous of women who had distinguished themselves in engineering, medicine and other related professions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">\u201cYou must, therefore, never let anyone limit your possibilities. If you set your mind to it, there is nothing you cannot achieve as a girl\u201d, Abdulateef charged the gathering of hundreds of school girls from 15 prominent schools in Lagos.
