{"id":31670,"date":"2019-05-02T18:58:44","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T17:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=31670"},"modified":"2019-05-02T18:58:44","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T17:58:44","slug":"green-lagos-laspark-goes-tough-on-property-owners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/green-lagos-laspark-goes-tough-on-property-owners\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Lagos: LASPARK Goes Tough On Property Owners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Tayo Olanipekun<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/laspark.ng\/\">The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK)<\/a> has said it will start enforcing the law against corporate organisations and property owners who refuse to comply with the state\u2019s provision on beautification of setbacks.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In a statement issued by the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, on Thursday, the agency said it has become imperative to ensure &#8220;total compliance with the State\u2019s Greening Law in order to appreciate the value of our environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAccording to Section 19 of the Law establishing LASPARK, all tenement owners and occupiers shall landscape and beautify the perimeter areas of their properties, the neglect, failure and refusal of which shall warrant the penalty of N250, 000.00 ,\u201d she emphasised.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">LASPARK added that property owners may also be compelled to pay the sum the state incurs in doing same on behalf of the tenement, or get a six-months imprisonment or other noncustodial sentence.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Adebiyi-Abiola averred that the Agency\u2019s resolve was to curtail the &#8220;pronounced negligence&#8221; of the greening requirement by private establishments and other property owners across the State which, according to her, is frustrating government\u2019s efforts to ward off the negative effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While noting that owners of commercial property with setbacks will be vigorously compelled to comply, Adebiyi-Abiola enjoined owners of petrol stations to adhere strictly to the approval granted by the Ministry of Physical Planning which stipulates that 20 percent of their property be reserved for greening.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe have noted with dismay the attitude of owners of Petrol Stations especially the new entrants who have made it a habit to concretise their entire floor while neglecting the provision of the law which specifically states that a certain percentage of their space must be reserved for greening,\u201d she reiterated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The General Manager stressed that LASPARK is more determined than ever to prosecute owners of these petrol stations and other commercial property according to the Law unless they show a desire to abide by the State\u2019s provision.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She said LASPARK will soon commence\u00a0locking up commercial premises for non-compliance\u00a0and urged owners of residential apartments to comply with the directive to avoid enforcement action.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The GM maintained that the state government had embarked on public education, enlightenment and advocacy to ensure that business enterprises and Lagosians appreciate the provision of the law.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She, therefore, implored interested companies to contact the Agency for guidance towards beautifying setbacks and other areas within their environment, submitting that nothing will be left undone to salvage the environment and make Lagos greener and healthier to live in.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tayo Olanipekun The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has said it will start enforcing the law against corporate organisations and property owners who refuse to comply with the state\u2019s provision on beautification of setbacks.
