{"id":29464,"date":"2019-01-25T14:07:10","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T13:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=29464"},"modified":"2019-01-25T14:07:10","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T13:07:10","slug":"anti-labour-posture-pengassan-seeks-stiffer-sanction-against-forte-oil-seplat-aiteo-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/anti-labour-posture-pengassan-seeks-stiffer-sanction-against-forte-oil-seplat-aiteo-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Labour Posture: PENGASSAN Seeks Stiffer Sanction Against Forte Oil, Seplat, Aiteo, Others"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-test-id=\"message-view-body\">\n<div class=\"msg-body P_wpofO iy_A\" data-test-id=\"message-view-body-content\">\n<div class=\"jb_0 X_6MGW N_6Fd5\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33591\"><b id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33592\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33593\">\u2026.Recommends NLNG Model For Refineries<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33595\"><b id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33596\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33597\">By Simon Ugwu<\/span><\/b><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33598\"><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33600\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33601\">The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has condemned what it described as the lingering anti-labour practice perpetrated by some indigenous oil companies operating in the country against their employees, especially Nigerian workers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33603\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33604\">Arising from the Association\u2019s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State recently, PENGASSAN alleged that \u00a0Forte Oil, Seplat, AITEO and NIPCO as being amongst the worst abusers of the Nation\u2019s labour laws and therefore vowed to resist their nefarious acts on the workers who are also citizens of Nigeria.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33606\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33607\">According to PENGASSAN, \u201cthese oil and gas companies are notorious in the practice of casualization, contract staffing, outsourcing and off-shoring of jobs as well as other unfair labour practices and under-hand tactics in their Labour relations activities\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33609\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33610\">The Association whose membership is organised among senior and middle management staff in the temporary and regular employment in Nigeria\u2019s Oil and Gas sector, thereby marking it out as a leading advocate and stakeholder in policy formulations that affects its over ten thousand (10,000) members on workplace related issue also accused these companies of refusing to unionise their workers, disrespect for mutually signed Collective agreements, persistent intimidation, victimization of union leaders and members.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33612\"><span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33613\">PENGASSAN also in the statement which was signed by its President Francis Olabode Johnson and General Secretary Lumumba.I. Okugbawa, commended the efforts of the Federal Government through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at ensuring adequacy and consistent supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) throughout the festive season.\u00a0<span id=\"yiv1106831390yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1548265360612_33614\">\u00a0<\/span>However, the body called on the Government to increase local refining capacity and remove all observed encumbrances to full rehabilitation of all the four Refineries.
