id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13318\">\u201cI am not happy about it,\u201d he said of the plans, which undercut his claims that his policies are spurring a revival in the id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13328\">The production cuts come as buyers in North America have turned away from smaller cars to bigger vehicles such as SUVs and trucks, which now make up nearly 70% of total US car purchases.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13329\"><span id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13330\"><span id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13332\" lang=\"EN\"><span id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13333\">Ms Barra said GM wants to invest in electric and autonomous vehicles, which are expected to drive future industry id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13338\">She is also responding to rising costs \u2013 including from new tariffs on materials such as steel \u2013 while preparing the firm id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13365\"><\/span>According to BBC report, the closures in North America include an assembly plant in Oshawa, Canada; facilities in Detroit and Warren in Michigan; a plant in Warren, Ohio and a site near Baltimore in Maryland.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13366\"><span id=\"m_4895609217405477942yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1543284001733_13367\"><span announced in February, as well as two other international facilities that were not specified.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div North America to affect more than 6,100 shift workers at the five plants, as well as more than 8,000 salaried employees.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div
