Experts in recycling business on Wednesday November 7, 2018 has advocated for effective ways of disposing E-waste in the country.<\/p>\n

They disclosed these at the second edition of the dialogue on waste management in Nigeria, with the theme Electronic Waste. The program is focused on gearing actions towards addressing the impact of climate change in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

In his welcome address, Dr Stefan Traumman, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Lagos appealed to the respective authorities to adopt a national e-waste policy which will help to curb illicit importation of used electrical electronic equipment (UEEE) into the country.<\/p>\n

On his part Dr Marc Lucassen, Delegate of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, noted that there should be policy to regulate disposal and treatments of e-waste and provide incentives to spur foreign direct investment in the capital intensive e-waste sector in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The managing director of Hinckley Group Recycling, Adrian Clews speaking on informal e-waste recycling in Nigeria, emphasized the necessity for data gathering on the volume of UEEE import into the country, better cohesion and control of import procedures and regulations at the port and the identification cum understanding of the impact of informal recycling primarily on scavengers, the climate and the general populace.<\/p>

During his presentation titled Resource Efficiency Scrap Recycling, Ifeanyi Ochonogor Chief Executive Officer E-Terra Technologies Limited, said that to achieve resource efficiency and sustainably eliminate the e-waste crisis in Nigeria, the 4Rs ( Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle) as essential components of environmentally responsible consumer behavior must be properly harnessed. Joseph Inyang, Co-founder, Juststandout Limited argued that repurposing refurbishment batteries is a crucial element of e-waste management which could drive down used battery volume and consequently reduce Nigeria\u2019s carbon footprint by 50 percent by 2030 while addressing the subject of leveraging e-waste to bridge the kilowatt divide.<\/p>\n

Financed by the foreign climate policy fund of the German ministry of foreign affairs, the were organized by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lagos, the energy and environment desk of the delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria and the German Embassy Abuja.<\/p>\n
