An Islamic teacher,\u00a0Abdulrazak Adeniyi, has accused his wife, Barakat, of child abandonment and adultery, sequel to which he has sued for divorce.<\/p>\n

Abdulrazak narrated to the court:\u00a0\u201cJust five months after Barakat gave birth to our first child, I discovered that she stopped breastfeeding the baby without notifying me.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin a twinkle of an eye, Barakat\u2019s ex-lover started visiting her in my own home, especially anytime I was not around.<\/p>\n

\u201cShortly, Barakat became pregnant and she shamefully abandoned my house because I had stopped making love with her by then.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the reason the baby started feeding on custard and milk, which I usually provide.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, anytime I went to give Barakat money for the baby\u2019s feeding, I usually see her secret lover in the same room with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, Barakat is a pathological liar for branding me as irresponsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to pray this honourable court to give me custody of the baby because I am capable of taking care of him in my school,\u201d Abdulrazak said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Barakat, in her petition, had accused her husband of gross irresponsibility.<\/p>

Barakat, a petty trader, told the court that her husband no longer loved her.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy lord, Abdulrazak is such a wicked husband who doesn\u2019t care about what happens to me and our child.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor two weeks, he may not even ask about the baby\u2019s welfare,\u201d Barakat told the court.<\/p>\n

The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, where the case was determined on Monday, eventually dissolved the two-year marriage between Barakat and Abdulrazak over acts of infidelity and irresponsibility.<\/p>\n

The court\u2019s President, Suleiman Apanpa, held that the court took its decision in consonance with the wish and resolution of both parties, Barakat and Abdulrazak.<\/p>\n

Apanpa held that, \u201cIn the interest of peace and tranquility, the union between Bakarat and Adulrazak has ceased to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cCustody of the one-and-a-half year-old child of the union is awarded to Barakat, while Abdulrazak shall pay a monthly allowance of N5,000 for the child\u2019s upkeep.<\/p>\n
