The U.S. Consul General, John Bray, has urged Nigerians to make it a commitment to eschew violence and ensure a peaceful democratic process during the general elections in 2019.<\/p>\n

Bray made the charge on Friday when the United States Consulate General in Lagos, in collaboration with U-Live Africa, co-hosted a musical concert.<\/p>\n

An American band, the Major Lazer SoundSystem, had been in the country as part of its African tour and it entertained its Nigerian fans at the Hard Rock Beach on Victoria Island.<\/p>\n

Following performances by leading Nigerian disc-jockeys, Bray delivered the remarks to hundreds of excited music lovers.<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight we are all here for Major Lazer. Music is the weapon, peace is the mission. As the 2019 general election draws close, I encourage you all to make a commitment to a non-violent and peaceful democratic process,\u201d Consul General Bray said.<\/p>\n

Bray,speaking as part of the U.S., EU and U.K. observers following the governorship election in Osun State in September,had said there were concerns over reports of irregularities over the election.<\/p>\n

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has approached an election tribunal,challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in that election.<\/p>

The Consul General was accompanied on stage by leading Nigerian artistes, Sound Sultan and Korede Bello, before giving the admonition that was followed by Major Lazer’s performance for the night.<\/p>\n

Major Lazer, the American electronic dance music group, comprising Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, had been in South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Uganda before its stop in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

It was a night to remember for the hundreds of fans who thronged the Hard Rock Beach as the electronic dance music trio thrilled the audience with a blend of local and international tunes, according to a statement from the U.S. Consulate General in Nigeria. <\/p>\n

“Major Lazer\u2019s visit to Nigeria underscores the strong U.S.-Nigeria cultural and people-to-people ties,” it noted. <\/p>\n

The electronic dance music group has recently dropped three singles featuring three popular Nigerian acts.<\/p>\n

These include Tied Up, featuring Mr. Eazi; Loyal, featuring Kizz Daniel and All My Life, featuring Burna Boy. <\/p>\n
