{"id":26650,"date":"2018-09-24T14:08:40","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T13:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=26650"},"modified":"2018-09-24T14:08:40","modified_gmt":"2018-09-24T13:08:40","slug":"court-convicts-53-for-building-without-permit-breaking-govt-seals-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/court-convicts-53-for-building-without-permit-breaking-govt-seals-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Convicts 53 For Building Without Permit, Breaking Govt Seals In Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Special Offences Court at Gbolade, Oshodi, has convicted 53 persons who contravened the building regulations in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The offenders were convicted after the Lagos State Building Control Agency prosecuted them for contravening the provisions of the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2010.<\/p>\n<p>According to LASBCA\u2019s General Manager, Mr Lekan Shodeinde, the agency has issued 83 summons against the offenders of the law in different parts of the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court had duly convicted 53 while others are still pending in court,\u201d he said in a statement on Monday in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Shodeinde said the offenders were being prosecuted for different contraventions and other related offences as stipulated in the building law.<\/p>\n<p>He said that their offences included the erection of a structure without a planning permit contrary to Section 27 (1) of the Law and punishable under Section 75 (1) of the same law.<\/p>\n<p>Other offences include breaking of government seals or removal of marks placed on a contravening structure by or with order of the agency, punishable under Section 75 (2) of the Law.<\/p>\n<p>He said that failure to insure a building as required by the law for which the offenders were prosecuted was contrary to Section 75 (3) of the Law.<\/p>\n<p>The general manager said that the prosecuted offenders had been convicted accordingly with an option of fine at the discretion of the court.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>He added that LASBCA had been working within the ambit of the law with the monitoring team for a better and well-planned city.<\/p>\n<p>Shodeinde said they also worked with developers and builders to ensure compliance with the approval granted and also monitored the safety of the structure being developed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are more concerned about the safety of the people making sure that where they abode is safe and secured,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed government\u2019s zero tolerance for building collapse in the state and the need to build right.<\/p>\n<p>Shodeinde appealed to all Lagos residents to obtain their building plan permit before the construction of any structure and comply with state laws regarding the approval given.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged building owners to seize the opportunity to regularise and perfect their building documentation to avoid any embarrassment from Law Enforcement officers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State Special Offences Court at Gbolade, Oshodi, has convicted 53 persons who contravened the building regulations in the state.
