{"id":25046,"date":"2018-07-13T22:50:54","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T21:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=25046"},"modified":"2018-07-13T22:50:54","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T21:50:54","slug":"667208-voters-for-ekiti-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/667208-voters-for-ekiti-election\/","title":{"rendered":"667,208 Voters  For Ekiti Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dayo Emmanuel<br \/>\nA total of 246,126 persons would not be able to exercise their franchise tomorrow as the people of Ekiti State, South West Nigeria would go out to participate in the governorship election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiy Raji has said.<\/p>\n<p>Raji, who answered questions from journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Friday, said a total of 913,334 persons registered to vote but only 667,208 have collected their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) while the rest have not collected, which means they would not be able to vote as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has closed issuing out the PVCs.<\/p>\n<p>This means 73 per cent of the population of residents with their PVCs would be expected to participate at the election across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGA) to elect a new governor.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner also said all materials were ready at the LGAs and his staff members are ready for the exercise. <\/p>\n<p>He also assured residents that adequate security has been put in place to ensure a smooth exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The electoral officer also appealed to eligible voters to go to their respective poling units as early as 8am to cast their votes peacefully.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>A total of 35 political parties are participating at the polls out of initial 40 who earlier signified interest. <\/p>\n<p>Raji also stressed that the election materials were received by the INEC officials and conveyed via the commission\u2019s vehicles tracker connected to a giant television screen for easy monitoring and transparency.<\/p>\n<p>Two days ago President Muhammadu Buhari was in the state to support the candidate of the All Progressive Party, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who was appointed Minister for Solid Minerals by the president in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the incumbent, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, also led the campaign train of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging the electorates to go out and exercise their franchise on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>The PDP is being represented by deputy governor, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka at the polls.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dayo Emmanuel A total of 246,126 persons would not be able to exercise their franchise tomorrow as the people of Ekiti State, South West Nigeria would go out to participate in the governorship election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiy Raji has said.
