Instagram is down for users across the globe.<\/p>\n

Users are reporting that the social media service\u2019s app and website are not loading pictures or the news feed.<\/p>\n

More than 1,200 disgruntled users have logged issues with the website Downdetector, which tracks website and app outages.<\/p>\n

Areas hit hardest include eastern parts of the United States, mainland Europe and southeastern regions of Australia.<\/p>\n

While reports are widespread, they don\u2019t seem to be affecting all users of the Facebook-owned platform.<\/p>\n

Users experiencing issues may find they can view people\u2019s profiles by heading to the Instagram website.<\/p>\n

While this is a limited version of the service, users can still see their news feed or like and comment on posts.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time the photo-sharing service has experienced problems.<\/p>\n

In February both Facebook and Instagram crashed causing a global Twitter meltdown as users complain they have to talk to their loved ones in person.<\/p>\n

Thousands of users of the two Facebook-owned services reported a huge outage that left some unable to access their profiles for several hours.<\/p>\n

The problem first appeared in mainland Europe and parts of south-east Asia, before spreading to users in the United States, with Facebook still yet to address or comment on ongoing disruptions.<\/p>\n

Twitter users have posted a string of hilarious responses to the outage, with one person writing \u2018my heart is breaking\u2019.<\/p>\n

Another asked: \u2018Does this mean that I actually have to work now?\u2019<\/p>\n

Reports have been filing in for the last half an hour and many users are still complaining about the loss of the site<\/p>\n

Users began reporting issues with the two platforms around 10:30am GMT (5:30am ET) this morning.<\/p>\n

Despite hitting three continents, the UK has been largely spared from the fault.<\/p>\n

Since this morning, more than 1,000 people have reported problems with Instagram on DownDetector, a website that tracks outage reports.<\/p>

Around 900 Facebook users have reported issues with the social media site to DownDetector.<\/p>\n

Visitors to Facebook\u2019s website are met with a statement which says: \u2018Sorry, something went wrong.<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019re working on it and we\u2019ll get it fixed as soon as we can.\u2019<\/p>\n

Users have taken to Twitter to complain of the outage, with many posts accompanied by the hashtag \u2018#facebookdown\u2019<\/p>\n

Visitors to the Facebook site are met with a statement which says: \u2018Sorry, something went wrong. We\u2019re working on it and we\u2019ll get it fixed as soon as we can\u2019.<\/p>\n

A number of people have posted on Twitter that they only came to the site to check if Instagram and Facebook were down<\/p>\n

An issue started just before 6pm GMT (1pm ET) with thousands of users reporting a total blackout on the site.<\/p>\n

A live outage map showed outage hot-spots across the United States, with the northeast hit particularly hard.<\/p>\n

Facebook was also down for users along the West Coast, in Mexico, and in parts of South America.<\/p>\n

Parts of Europe also appeared to be affected by the outage, with reports that Facebook is down coming primarily from the UK and Germany.<\/p>\n

Both Facebook and Instagram went down for thousands of users.<\/p>\n

Some of those attempting to go onto the sites were shown a blank page, with nothing loading.<\/p>\n

Others reported they could only load certain parts of the websites or apps of the two Facebook-owned services.<\/p>\n

Some reported the sites worked fine until they try to post an update or image, at which point they shut down.<\/p>\n

The issue was widespread, with reports of outage popping up in Brazil, Japan, India and parts of Europe \u2013 though the outage has not affected everyone in these regions.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear whether the outage is the result of an internal issue at Facebook or whether it\u2019s been caused by outside influences.<\/p>\n
