{"id":23579,"date":"2018-05-10T15:41:46","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T14:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=23579"},"modified":"2018-05-10T15:41:46","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T14:41:46","slug":"senate-issues-fresh-summons-to-ig-over-spates-of-killings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/senate-issues-fresh-summons-to-ig-over-spates-of-killings\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Issues Fresh Summons To IG Over Spates Of killings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Senate on Thursday issued a fresh summons to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to appear before it.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This time, the IG is expected to explain what the Police are doing over the spates of killings in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Senate made this known in a statement signed by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Sabi Abdullahi, which was shared via their official Twitter handle.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Part of the statement reads, \u201cThe Senate said the crux of the matter that informed the invitation is the ceaseless spate of killings across the country and that matters concerning the arrest of Senator Melaye has in fact been overtaken by events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe noted the response issued by one Jimoh Moshood on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris following yesterday\u2019s resolution of the legislative chamber on the continued refusal of the IGP to honour the invitation for him to come and explain what the police are doing to halt the spate of killings across the country.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\u201cLet it be known that the IGP by trying to reduce the reason for his invitation by the Senate to the arrest of Sen. Dino Melaye is simply holding on to straw. The issue of Sen. Melaye\u2019s arrest has been overtaken by events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe courts are already handling the related cases. Our main concern is the security crisis across the country where people are being killed in scores on daily basis.
