{"id":23191,"date":"2018-04-23T13:46:31","date_gmt":"2018-04-23T12:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=23191"},"modified":"2018-04-23T13:46:31","modified_gmt":"2018-04-23T12:46:31","slug":"lagos-state-task-force-impounds-98-commercial-motorcycles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/lagos-state-task-force-impounds-98-commercial-motorcycles\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos State Task Force Impounds 98 Commercial Motorcycles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"yiv0657944933yMail_cursorElementTracker_1524417978849\">Folake Sokoya<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv0657944933yMail_cursorElementTracker_1524417993472\">The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force over the weekend impounded 98 commercial motorcycles plying restricted routes within Apapa.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Chairman of the Agency, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that the enforcement operation was carried out on the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Edgal Imohimi.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He disclosed further that the enforcement operations was carried out\u00a0 after several warning issued to commercial motorcycle operators to desist from operating on restricted routes particularly on highways and bridges.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>SP Egbeyemi stated that the government was not comfortable with the flagrant abuse of law by commercial motorcycle operators, coupled with report of crime incidents allegedly perpetrated with use of &#8216;okada&#8217; in Orile-Iganmu and other on-going roads constructions\/rehabilitations around Apapa axis were part of Governor Ambode&#8217;s efforts to permanently address the perennial traffic around Apapa.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Chairman advised commercial motorcycles unions to screen and weed out those criminal elements amongst them and to properly educate their members on the need to strictly adhere to the laws.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In conclusion, the exercise is an ongoing one as the CP has ordered the Taskforce Chairman to focus his operations more within Apapa until this menace is totally eradicated.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He however appealed to residents of Apapa to cooperate with the Taskforce during the exercise and be free to contact him for useful information to rid this menace.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A motorist who simply identified himself as &#8216;John&#8217; commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP EDGAL IMOHIMI for his prompt enforcement directive to check illegal activities of these commercial motorcycle operators around Apapa.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to him, those commercial motocyclists who drives against traffic are fond of smatching side-screen and mirrors of vehicles that are on the right of way even knowing that they are at fault.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A resident who refused to identify her name said &#8220;We appreciate the action of CP and we are ready to cooperate with Taskforce as most of these commercial motorcyclists are illegal Aliens from neighbouring countries&#8221;.<\/div>\n<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center;
