Nigerian states have generated a five year-high Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) closing with N931bn in 2017 as the nation exited recession.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a data generated a data and infographics oriented organization, Budgit and published graphically on the organisation\u2019s twitter handle @BudgITng the chat revealed how states in Nigeria cumulatively generated IGR to boost the economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the chat, total IGR in 2013 was N657.02bn. There was an increase of 18% in 2014 when a total of 801.29bn was generated internally.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, 2015 recorded a decline according to the graph, no thanks to the economic recession which was the explanation for massive job cut across industries in Nigeria. The recession was also blamed for shortage of the US Dollars which however explained why the local currency recorded a free fall against the US Dollar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore in 2015, Nigeria\u2019s IGR from the states dropped some 45.54bn from 801.29bn in 2014 to 755.75bn in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the recession lasted despite efforts by the economic team to salvage the situation, IGR from the states further dropped in 2016 to 738.02bn according to the chat.<\/span><\/p>

However while inflation continued to drop, Nigerians got a smoothening report from the National Bureau of Statistics that the country\u2019s economic recession was over by middle of 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then at the end of 2017, the IGR from the states witnessed a five-year high growing from 738.02bn in 2016 to 931.23bn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile five top states that helped in the brilliant performance include Lagos State which according to reports generates more IGR than 31 other states combined.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other states with impressive IGR include Ogun, Rivers, Edo, Kwara, Delta, Kano, Cross River, Enugu and Oyo States. States with poor IGR include Borno, Eboyin, Kebbi, Jigawa, Yobe and Gombe States.<\/span><\/p>\n
