{"id":19545,"date":"2017-11-28T17:30:39","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T16:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=19545"},"modified":"2017-11-28T17:30:39","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T16:30:39","slug":"artistes-want-increased-budget-agriculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/artistes-want-increased-budget-agriculture\/","title":{"rendered":"Artistes Want Increased Budget For Agriculture"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m_-4050033826468185674yMail_cursorElementTracker_1511883932124\">Nigerian Musicians have asked the government for an increase in the budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector in the 2018 budget.<\/div>\n<div>The artistes,which included Sound Sultan, Vector, Niniola, Harrysong, Lami Philips and Illbliss among others, called on the authority to \u2018Walk the Talk\u2019 and to put money \u201cwhere our mouth is\u201d by increasing the amount of budget that goes to agriculture.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to a statement <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2014938878\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>, the artistes made this call during a music concert organised in Lagos by the international development agency, Oxfam in Nigeria, tagged \u201cUnited4food Music Concert.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Speaking during the concert, OXFAM\u2019s brand ambassador, Sound Sultan, said that 70 per cent of Nigeria\u2019s poor live in rural areas and derive their livelihood from small-scale agriculture.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cInvesting in agriculture remains the most viable way for the country to achieve an economic revival and sustainable and inclusive national development. So, efforts to be made in fighting hunger must prioritize agriculture and climate change adaptation. The agriculture sector deserves the attention that was given to Abuja airport runway,\u201d he noted.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sound Sultan said his mission as Oxfam goodwill ambassador was to deploy music as a weapon against hunger.
