{"id":19116,"date":"2017-11-12T21:33:32","date_gmt":"2017-11-12T20:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=19116"},"modified":"2017-11-12T21:33:32","modified_gmt":"2017-11-12T20:33:32","slug":"technology-codelagos-expands-school-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/technology-codelagos-expands-school-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology: CodeLagos Expands To Out-of-School Residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Lagos State government has expanded the CodeLagos initiative to out-of-school centres with classes expected to commence on <span class=\"aqj\"><span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_364931381\">Monday, November 13, 2017<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The initiative is expected to position Lagos as the technology frontier in Africa by training one million Lagos residents to code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, in a statement <span class=\"aqj\"><span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_364931382\">on Sunday<\/span><\/span>, said classes will commence in four centres: Herbert Macaulay Library, Yaba; Ilupeju Public Library, Ilupeju; Isolo Public Library, Isolo and Onikan Youth Centre, Lagos Island. Four classes will hold daily from <span class=\"aqj\"><span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_364931383\">8:30am to 4pm<\/span><\/span> in these centres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Bank-Olemoh said the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, gave the Ministry of Education a clear mandate to prepare Lagosians for the economy of the future which is going to be technology driven, adding that CodeLagos was initiated as a response to achieving same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">According to him, the CodeLagos Out-of-School program will provide access to coding education for interested Lagosians aged 16 years and above, who are currently not in any primary or secondary school in Lagos.<\/span><\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">Explaining the Out-of-School program further, Bank-Olemoh said the classes will run for six weeks, <span class=\"aqj\"><span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_364931384\">Monday<\/span><\/span> to <span class=\"aqj\"><span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_364931385\">Friday<\/span><\/span>, one hour &#8211; 30 minutes per class. The classes will cover Web Development, and Fundamentals of Java and Python.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';\">The CodeLagos project initially kicked off with its pilot phase in July this year rolling out in primary and secondary schools in the state, including government and private schools.
