{"id":18037,"date":"2017-10-09T19:05:00","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T18:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=18037"},"modified":"2017-10-09T19:05:00","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T18:05:00","slug":"lagos-records-2-suspected-cases-of-monkey-pox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/lagos-records-2-suspected-cases-of-monkey-pox\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking: Lagos records 2 suspected cases of monkey pox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570607540\" dir=\"ltr\">Tayo Olanipekun<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570644035\" dir=\"ltr\">The Lagos State Government has revealed that two suspected cases of monkey pox have been recorded in the state.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570664721\" dir=\"ltr\">Commissioner for Health, Dr.\u00a0Jide Idris, who disclosed this at a news conference on Monday, said the two suspected cases were currently being investigated.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570769321\" dir=\"ltr\">He said though no confirmed case has been recorded, their was need to sensitise members of the public and &#8220;provide adequate information on measures for prevention and control of the disease in line with the policy of the State government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570813071\" dir=\"ltr\">Idris disclosed that the two suspected cases were recorded in a private hospital, which he did not disclose.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570837599\" dir=\"ltr\">According to him, one of the suspects came in from Bayelsa State and ate bush meat.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570869686\" dir=\"ltr\">Idris said the two suspects were currently being quarantined in their various houses pending the result of the investigation.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570884491\" dir=\"ltr\">The Commissioner said since the break of the disease, the state government had reiterated the need for members of the public to observe and maintain a high standard of personal and environmental hygiene at all times.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspected case of the disease to the nearest public health facility or the Directorate of Disease Control in the State Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Also, health workers are advised to practice universal safety precautions in the management of suspected or confirmed cases, wear appropriate personal protective equipment when attending to cases, wash hands after each contact with patients or contaminated materials, while surveillance systems must be strengthened.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The State government has mobilised the Disease Surveillance Officers in the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the State and health workers in both public and private health facilities have been placed on high alert,&#8221; Idris said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He called on residents of the State to remain calm and go about their businesses without fear as the government had put in place adequate measures to effectively prevent and control the spread of the infection to the State.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yiv4312756446yMail_cursorElementTracker_1507570582691\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;In case of any suspected case of monkey pox, the Lagos State Ministry of Health should be notified through the following mobile lines: 08037170614, 09087106072,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tayo Olanipekun The Lagos State Government has revealed that two suspected cases of monkey pox have been recorded in the state.
