{"id":17326,"date":"2017-09-18T08:58:53","date_gmt":"2017-09-18T07:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=17326"},"modified":"2017-09-18T08:58:53","modified_gmt":"2017-09-18T07:58:53","slug":"kpmg-sacks-management-team-financial-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/kpmg-sacks-management-team-financial-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"KPMG sacks management team over financial scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">Foremost accountancy firm, KPMG, has removed the leadership team of its South African arm after an internal investigation into work it did for the Gupta family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">Chief executive Trevor Hoole, Chairman Ahmed Jaffer, chief operating officer Steven Louw and five other senior partners have all left the firm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">\u00a0No evidence of corruption or illegal action by staff was found, KPMG said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">But KPMG said work done for the Guptas, who have close links to President Jacob Zuma, \u201cfell short of our standards\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">\u00a0The new chief executive of KPMG\u2019s South African arm, Nhlamu Dlomu, said: \u201cThis has been a painful period and the firm has fallen short of the standards we set for ourselves and that the public rightly expects from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">She said: \u201cI want to apologise to the public, our people and clients for the failings that have been identified by the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">The accountancy and audit firm will also donate the 40m rand (\u00a32.2m) it earned in fees from Gupta-controlled firms to charity and refund 23m rand it earned compiling a controversial report for the South African tax agency.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p class=\"m_7398039723136330654ydp4e0ad744MsoNormal\">BBC report that KPMG is the third major firm to become embroiled in controversy from dealing with the Gupta family\u2019s group of businesses, after London-based public relations firm Bell Pottinger fell into administration this week.
