{"id":15350,"date":"2017-07-10T16:12:11","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T15:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=15350"},"modified":"2017-07-10T16:12:11","modified_gmt":"2017-07-10T15:12:11","slug":"etisalat-pulls-nigeriatelco-may-change-brand-name-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/etisalat-pulls-nigeriatelco-may-change-brand-name-weeks\/","title":{"rendered":"Etisalat pulls out of Nigeria\u2026telco may change brand name in weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telecoms group Etisalat has terminated a management agreement with its Nigerian arm and given the business time to phase out the Etisalat brand in Nigeria, Reuters is reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Hatem Dowidar, the chief executive of Etisalat International, said the company , with a 45 percent stake in the Nigerian business, is transfering its shares to a loan trustee after the talks had failed.<\/p>\n<p>Dowidar said all UAE shareholders of Etisalat Nigeria, including state-owned investment fund Mubadala, had exited the company and left the board and management.<\/p>\n<p>He said in an interview with Reuters discussions were ongoing with Etisalat Nigeria to provide technical support, adding that it could continue to use the brand for another three-weeks before phasing it out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a new board and we are not part of that company. We have sent our termination letter for the management agreement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Etisalat Nigeria took-out a $1.2 billion loan with 13 local lenders in 2013 to refinance an existing loan and fund expansion, but struggled to repay four years later.<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>When asked if the company will return to the country anytime soon, Dowidar said\u00a0\u201cthe train has left the station on that one.
