{"id":14007,"date":"2017-06-06T14:24:16","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T13:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/?p=14007"},"modified":"2017-06-06T14:24:16","modified_gmt":"2017-06-06T13:24:16","slug":"faan-pensioners-urge-senate-to-stop-airports-concession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/sub\/faan-pensioners-urge-senate-to-stop-airports-concession\/","title":{"rendered":"FAAN pensioners urge Senate to stop airports concession"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"blog-post-title\">The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Chapter, has urged the Senate to urgently stop the planned concession of the four major airports in the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry clearfix\">\n<p>Mr Emeka Njoku, Secretary-General, NUP, FAAN, made the call while speaking at the monthly general meeting of the union at the premises of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government had recently appointed Transaction Advisers for the concession of the Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt airports.<\/p>\n<p>Njoku, however, faulted the move, stressing that the unions in the sector would continue to resist any plan to concession the viable airports by the Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe Senate recently stopped the concession of Port Harcourt Refinery because the process was not transparent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hereby solicit further intervention from the National Assembly on the planned concession of our four viable airports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this government is known for zero tolerance on any act of impunity, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari, we cannot understand the refusal of the minister on the recently passed National Assembly Public Hearing resolution suspending the planned concession of the four viable airports.\u2019\u2019<\/p><div data-ad-id=\"32665\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_ad_image afw_ad afwadid-32665  \">\r\n                                                            <div style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center;color:#cccccc;\">Advertisement<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessbankplc.com\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"auto\" max-width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalwire.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Banner-1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n                                                                        \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>According to him, past concession agreements were not beneficial to both government and its agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Njoku noted that revenue collection points of FAAN such as the toll gate, car parks, bill boards, fuel surcharges, shops and VIP lounges were all put under concession and have all become sad stories today.<\/p>\n<p>He said the union would not allow FAAN to go the way of the defunct Nigeria Airways which was liquidated by an executive fiat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want the minister to tell the public what he wants to concession.
