Niger\u00a0 state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has blamed the problem of inadequate portable water supply in Minna, the state capital and other major towns in the state\u00a0 on the inability of the ministry of water resources to identify competent firms to fix all the broken down Bi-Water treatment plants in parts of the state.<\/p>\n

This is as a result of scarcity of portable water supply in Minna and its neighbouring communities, thereby fueling\u00a0\u00a0 fears of a possible\u00a0outbreak of epidemic diseases among the residents, particularly if an urgent solution is not proffered to the problem\u00a0by the government\u00a0as residents now rely mostly on water vendors for their domestic and commercial need as public water taps have run dried in recent times.<\/p>\n

Governor Abubakar Sanni Bello who expressed concern about the problem of water scarcity\u00a0everywhere in the state, lamented the poor\u00a0situation, highlighting\u00a0that the type of untreated\u00a0water being consumed in most of the communities in the state on the occasion of his ongoing\u00a0mid-term tour of\u00a0the 25 local governments of the state, saying that the situation\u00a0called for urgent attention.<\/p>\n

He stated further that most of the\u00a0 the water being drank and used for domestic purposes\u00a0 was not even good for animals consumption and announced\u00a0 the release of N30 million for\u00a0 the fixing\u00a0 of broken down boreholes in Lapai and its environs and another N2 million for the provision of\u00a0 treated water at all the\u00a0 worshiping centres\u00a0 across the local government.<\/p>

The governor also directed that the local government authorities\u00a0and all the stakeholders to\u00a0\u00a0 ensure that water is provided in all the centres with immediate effect as an interim measure.<\/p>\n

Responding to the barrages\u00a0 of requests put forward by the Lapai local government area as presented by their spokesperson, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa who is also the state commissioner of\u00a0 Information, Culture and Tourism,\u00a0 Governor Bello approved a 15KVE Transformer for the council\u00a0 which was estimated at about N75 million.<\/p>\n

He however noted\u00a0that the Lapai – Paiko road was not completely deplorable, but\u00a0needs\u00a0maintenance, while assuring that the road would be taken care by the state<\/p>\n
