The Chief Executive Officer, Anabel Group, Nicholas Okoye has said the capacity utilisation for industries in the private and public sectors in the country has dropped to less than 40 percent.<\/p>\n

He stressed the need for entrepreneurs and company managers to focus on planning for succession and, most importantly, focus on supporting the growth of leaders within their companies.<\/p>\n

In an interview, Okoye said leadership development was one of the most important aspects for the sustainable growth of any company, adding if young people are not developed to become\u00a0 leaders, it will affect the health of the organisations in future.<\/p>\n

According to him, most times the company dies or continues to struggle to survive, but if a leader is developed, he becomes effective leader and the company\u2019s sustainability would be assured.<\/p>\n

He noted that a lot of the companies were failing, adding that a lot of them are not doing as well as they should be doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are not meeting their full potential and the advice is for them to focus on developing the leaders within the company. And if you don\u2019t have leaders within the company, you go and look for them and bring them to come and join the company he advised.<\/p>

\u201cIf you get the leadership right, and you get the succession right, the company\u2019s sustainability is assured.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf your productivity is low, your commerce is going to be low too, which means your earnings will be low because you are producing much less than what you are supposed to produce,\u201d he explained<\/p>\n

He noted that most of the big companies in Nigeria were run by foreigners because the local professionals have not been supported to get the true leadership position by the leaders that came before them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has not always been the case. Before now, many of these companies were led by Nigerian professionals but those professionals when they left, they didn\u2019t plan succession properly so there were no Nigerians to succeed them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, there was the need to get the youth and support their training to take positions and ensure they are in the succession planning of the organisation, adding that succession is a transition which can take years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
