The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Saturday<\/span><\/span> challenged States Governments in Nigeria to take a cue from the current steps of the Federal Government to improve investment environment.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Commending the creation of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), chaired by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, President of LCCI, Dr (Mrs) Nike Akande explained that the call on states is \u201cespecially necessary with regard to the business environment variables which are within the purview of the states such as construction permits, perfection of land titles and the multiplicity of taxes and levies\u201d.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Akande also commended what she described as \u201cprogress made in the engagement of the Niger Delta stakeholders\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

She said: \u201cThe country has witnessed a respite from attacks on oil installations in recent times.\u00a0We implore the government to sustain the strategic engagement.\u00a0 The fundamental developmental issues in the region should be urgently addressed.\u00a0 It is in the interest of all that we have an enduring peace in all parts of the country.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cThese laudable steps and measures will impact positively on investors\u2019 confidence and promote domestic and foreign investment.\u00a0 Ultimately, the doing business ranking of Nigeria will improve, making the country a major investment destination.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>\u00a0<\/u> According to Akande, \u201cLCCI will track the deliverables of PEBEC for appropriate feedbacks to the government\u201d.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Akande said: \u201cWe commend the 60-day national action plan for ease of doing business as articulated by government. The specifics of this action plan include:<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Reduction in the time required for business registration at the Corporate Affairs Commission [CAC] with the upgrade of its online portal.<\/u><\/u><\/p>

Reduction in the period it takes for product registration by relevant regulatory agencies of government.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Transparency and inclusiveness in the procurement processes<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Reduction in the number of agencies examining cargoes at the ports and commitment to the introduction of Single Window for cargo clearance by the end of the year.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Streamlining the immigration procedures and processes to reduce the bureaucracy of issuing passports and visas, as well as issuance of Visa on Arrival<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Upgrading of the websites of MDAs\u00a0Commitment to the improvement of the ambience of our international airports.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Akande in a statement said: \u201cImprovements in the business environment will impact positively and significantly on the productivity, prosperity, and progress of the Nigeria private sector.<\/p>\n
