Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida has expressed concern over the current insecurity situation and economic sabotage in the country, saying that it should be a source of concern to all Nigerians.<\/p>\n

General Babangida in a statement in Minna to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance week urged all political leaders, traditional leaders, elder statesmen and the general society that the security of the country should be paramount to them.<\/p>\n

According to the former Military Leader, \u201cIn our collective and individual resolves to keep Nigeria\u2019s\u00a0unity, irrespective of sectional, religious, cultural leanings, we\u00a0have to take bold steps to tackle the great challenges of insecurity\u00a0and distrust to commensurate the sacrifices made \u00a0by our \u00a0armed\u00a0security personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance week, Babanguda said it came at a time when “our armed forces, military men and women are gaining more ground in\u00a0the fight against insurgency and conflicts ridden areas of Nigeria”.<\/p>

\u201cAs we celebrate, this year’s Armed \u00a0forces\u00a0remembrance day, to take a stock of the unique supreme sacrifices paid by\u00a0our men and women of the armed forces especially the fallen heroes to keep the country together, we should also\u00a0commend the\u00a0recent \u00a0effort of \u00a0our \u00a0gallant military for \u00a0breaking \u00a0the nerve\u00a0centre of Boko \u00a0Haram terrorists\u201d.<\/p>\n

He therefore urged all Nigerians, which includes \u00a0traditional, religious and opinion leaders to think \u201cNigeria\u2019s\u00a0unity \u00a0first\u201d \u00a0and guard \u00a0their \u00a0utterances so as not to plunge the country into further crisis.<\/p>\n

He also charged government at all levels to\u00a0 as a matter of urgency,\u00a0put an end to the ongoing cattle rustling, armed \u00a0kidnappings and armed \u00a0banditry\u00a0 which he pointed out have\u00a0 claimed many innocent lives and properties estimated at several\u00a0 millions Naira destroyed.<\/p>\n

General Babangida while felicitating with the Nigerian\u00a0 Armed Forces on this year’s\u00a0 Remembrance Day celebration, prayed for continued peace, unity and\u00a0brotherhood amongst the citizenry .
