Minna, the capital city of Niger State and its environs are presently under siege by some suspected armed robbers, following series of house breakings by some dare devil robbers on the residences of some high profile citizens even in broad daylight .
National Wire learnt that items such as a private vehicle, Computer Laptops, IPads, Androids, GSM handsets, Plastma Television sets, Electronics sound sysyems, Jewelries, other household golds which included clothes, Wrist Watches as well as other personal effects estimated at several millions naira and unquantified sums of money were said to have been carted away by the hoodlums.
And among the victims was the Deputy Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Bako Kasim, the Provost, Niger State College of Education, Minna, Prof.Yakubu Auna, the Acting Managing Director, Niger State Developement Company, Alhaji Yusuf Aliyu, and a Media Aide in the office of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Habib Wushishi respectively.
Further checks revealed that aside from Alhaji Ibrahim Wushishi, a Journalist, who lives at Tudun Fulani, in Bosso Local Government Area of the State( an outskirts of Minna) while others, including the Deputy Speaker, NSHA, Hon. Bako Kasim, were all residents in high brow area, off Aloevera Hotel area of the city, off Tunga community in Chanchaga local government area of the state.
Insider sources who spoke with our reporter on Friday at the Tudun Fulani residence of Habibu Wushishi said among the losses suffered by him was a Plastma Television set, an MP3, five sets of Canvas , clothings and other personal effects.
The sources who craved for anonymity said Alhaji Wushishi had laid an official complaint at the Bosso Division of the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, where he reported the unfortunate incidence as soon as he returned home from his offfice at the Government house, Minna on the fateful evening and met his apartment that was under lock and keys, buggled by some yet unknown persons and carted his property away.
It was further learnt that the Deputy Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly’s(NSHA) private residence, suffered similar fate,as his wife was said to have lost her Jewelries, some personal effects and unspecified sums of money to the house bugglers following their absence at home on the fateful day.
Concerted efforts made by our reporter to speak to Hon. Bako Kasim on the incidence however proved abortive as a source in his residence pleaded with our reporter not to bother himself talking to the Bida local government council- born politician, saying the man was just recuperating from an illness.
Similarly, the Provost, Niger State College of Education, (COE) Minna, Prof. Yakubu Auna, was also said to have lost some personal effects such as an iPad, in which so many sensitive and very important Academic materials that has to do with the College were saved.
Other items, carted away by the burglars from the Provost’s residence were some other valuable items belonging to him, his wife, the children and other members of his family such as Android phones, Computer Laptops, Wrist watches, Jewelries belonging to his wife and some unspecified sum of money among other stolen items belonging to him and members of his families.
An insider source at the State Criminals Investigation and Intelligence Department,( SCIID) Minna, told our reporter that Prof. Auna had personally reported the matter to the police almost immediately after the incidence.
According to the very reliable police source, who craved for anonymity in a chat brief chat with our reporter said that the Provost wish specifically complained bitgerly about the theft of his IPad, which according to him was very important to him in view of some of the invaluable items saved on the Ipad.
The source who craved for anonymity in a brief chat with the S adding that the Provost allegedly solicited the support of the Police authorities at the state’s Police Command Headquarters Minna, on the need to assist him tracked the number with a view to recovering the Ipad, whereever it must have been sold by the suspected criminals.
It was further learnt that the Acting Managing Director, Niger State Development Company,( NSDC) Alhaji Yusuf Aliyu, also lost his Toyota Carina to the dare devil burgglers, who were said to have used a Master Key to drive the car out of his premises on the fateful day.
National Wire further gathered that after the bugglars had stolen some of the personal effects inside the house, after they had forcefully gained entry into the inner chambers, that the vehicle was allegedly used to cart away the properties, such as Plastma Television sets, Computer Lap tops, Musical electronic items, female Jewelries, clothes, shoes, IPhone, GSM handsets and others, belonging to Alhaji Aliyu and his family members.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Alhaji Adamu Usman confirmed the incidents in an interview with our reporter on the matter, adding that the nature of the environments where the high profile victims were living might have been responsible for the unfortunate incidents to happen, and one of the reasons why the bugglers operated unchallenged.
He however debunked the assertions in some quarters that the victims were attacked by the hoodlums, just because they were government functionaries.
“Police have since swung into action on the matters and I can assure you we are already making headways on the matter,” said CP, Adamu Usman.
