The Lagos State Government has said it would take over the 38,000 capacity National Stadium in Surulere, with the intention of turning it into a world class facility.
This is to also further promote sporting activities and encourage family bonding in the state by embarking on a total turnaround of the massive edifice.
Governor Akinwumi Ambode, who stated this, Wednesday, during an inspection tour of the National Stadium, alongside the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, noted that just like the stadia in Kaduna and Enugu, which were handed to their various state governments, Lagos was ready to stand up for leadership, by asking for the running of the National Stadium.
Ambode reiterated his government’s commitment towards using tourism, entertainment, arts and sports to drive youth empowerment and excellence, as well as boost the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state.
Earlier, the Sports Minister noted that management culture was key and fundamental to sustaining infrastructure so as to enhance productivity.
The team inspected the Mainbowl, the Indoor Sports Hall, Legacy Field, as well as the Basketball, Volleyball and Table Tennis courts of the stadium, among others.
