The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Bida,Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi has given kudos to the Federal Government in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Education for attracting some Seven newly Constructed Projects at the Bida Campus of the Institution, estimated at about N1 billion through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund’s (TETFUND)interventions.
The Rector, gave the commendation on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Multi- Million Naira Projects at the Polytechnic in Bida, adding that no fewer than Five TetFund sponsored Projects and two others from Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) that were all meant to provide conducive teaching and learning atmosphere for Lecturers and Students of the Institution have been completed. .
Dzukogi explained that the projects includes: amongst others a two storeys Administrative Complex extension, executed at N186,271,312.50k, Lecture Theatres and Staff Offices Complex at N133,075,228.25k, while the sums of N225,498, 860.16k was expended on the Lecture theaters and Staff offices complex .
Others according to Dzukogi, is a 500 – seaters capacity Computer Based Test Centre (CBT) at the cost of N201,575,036.80k, while the School of Environmental studies new complex was constructed at N179,269,036.80k totaling N926,139,472 , saying, that “we also purchased a Water Tanker to curb water scarcity on the campus of the Polytechnic and 10 number tricycles procured through Public Private Partnership ( PPP) and Asphalt road linking the Library junction – School of Agricultural Technology and Mass Communications Department were funded through IGR.
The Rector said, during his remarks at the Commissioning ceremony that “I must thank the Management team for finding it a point of priority to ensure that from the limited resources competing for attention within the coffers of the IGR, we are able to complement the efforts of the TETFUND” .
He however noted that infrastructural development was part of the Seven points agenda of his administration’s mission and vision at the inception in 2015 on assumption of office as the Rector of the Polytechnic.
Dzukogi pointed out that his tenure at the Institution has witnessed Seven Schools from Four Schools he inherited from his predecessors , while assuring to focus on improving teaching and learning environment as most priority areas in the next two years .
Meanwhile, in his remarks while Officially Commissioning the projects, the Guest of Honour at the ceremony, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Alhaji (Dr.)Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, called for sustainable maintenance and adequate utilization of the properties, just as he applauded President Muhammadu Buhari impacting positively on the education sector in the country , especially for the practical developments at the Federal Polytechnic Bida.
The Foremost Monarch, thereby declared his total support for the Rector, and the Institution with the view that he (Dzukogi) succeeds in his efforts at creating conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning at the Polytechnic, despite the paucity of funds.
Speaking further, the Etsu Nupe jAlhaji (Dr.)Yahaya Abubakar( CFR) however appealed for peace by all the stakeholders at the Institution in order to enhance meaningful growth and development, while commending the School Management for judicious use of its IGR
Amongs the signatories presence at the occasion was a member of Niger State House of Assembly, representing Bida South, Hon Bako Shetima who stated in his remarks, that those who were allegedly sabotaging the efforts of the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Bida , Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi and the Institution were indirectly sabotaging the state, Nigerlites and the Nupe Kingdom.
He however pleaded that they should desist from doing so and join hands with the management in ensuring mass development of the school.
