A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has restrained the Ebonyi State of Assembly and seven others from sacking the deputy speaker, Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa.
The court presided over by Justice I.E Ekaro in a motion ex-parte order also directed that the deputy speaker should not be disturbed from carrying out his duties at the assembly.
Justice Ekaro further directed parties in the suit dated February 25, 2022 to maintain status quo as it relates to the entire circumstances of the matter and or from disturbing the plaintiff membership of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, pending the hearing and final determination of the motion on notice.
The court directed the suit be served on the respondents through direct or substituted service.
Joined in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attorney General of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Security Service, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, the Clerk Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Hon. Kingslay Ogbonnu Ikoro.
The claimant are Hon. Mrs Ngozi Lilian Eziulo, Hon. Oliver Osi and Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa.
It will be recall that, the Deputy speaker of was impeached on Monday morning by 15 members of the House.
A letter read by the Speaker of the House,Mr. Francis Nwifuru, claimed that his removal followed his purported resignation as a member of the House.
He was subsequently replaced with the former Deputy Leader of the House, Mr. Kingsley Ikoro.
Ikoro represents Afikpo North West Constituency in the House.
